STOP - Students Together Opposing Prejudice is a six week interfaith program,
launched in 1991; to help young people recognize the injustice of stereotyping and prejudice
in all its forms and develop strategies for confronting it in their daily lives.
They also begin to look at social structures in our world that lead to misunderstanding and inequity.
The "STOP" curriculum is offered to seventh and eighth grade students. They are invited to return
each year, if they wish, to participate in the Leadership Program. High school students are
encouraged to participate as well. The six sessions are totally facilitated by older teens
that have remained with the program each year. Since the beginning over 400 young people
have participated in STOP program.
This year, 2007, over 60 young people, representing four congregations in Sudbury and the
Islamic Center, participated in the STOP program. The group visited the Islamic Center of Boston
in February. Zaki Akhtar and Muhammad Hussain made presentation on Islam to the group.
